Once well cleaned and cooked, quinoa is very versatile and can be used in many recipes.

You can accompany it with sautéed vegetables, vegetable protein, spices, herbs ... It is an excellent base for any dish.

How to Cook Quinoa - Step by Step
Step by step photos of how to cook quinoa

  • Wash the quinoa well until the water runs clear (photo 1).
  • In a saucepan, add the water (photo 2) and when it starts to boil, add the soy sauce or tamari (photo 3), stir and add the quinoa (photo 4).
  • Let it boil for about 2 minutes, lower over medium heat, cover and cook for about 10-15 minutes or until it has absorbed all the water (photo 5). If the water runs out and the quinoa is still tricky, add a little more.
  • Serve immediately.

Tips:

  • Quinoa is cooked al dente (like pasta), and the grain becomes transparent except for the edges.
  • To cook it, you usually need twice as much liquid as quinoa (if you use 1 cup of quinoa, you will need 2 cups of water), although it can vary depending on the type of quinoa you use.
  • To give it more flavour, you can add some ingredients to the cooking water, such as sea salt, soy or tamari sauce, lemon juice, vinegar, spices, herbs, etc.

What is quinoa?

Quinoa is technically a seed, but having properties generally attributed to cereals is considered a pseudocereal.

Although it has to be washed well before cooking to eliminate saponins, quinoa is a very beneficial superfood for our body.

It has excellent nutritional value and is rich in good quality plant protein, fibre, minerals and vitamins.

How long does the quinoa hold?

It is essential to store the cooked quinoa in an airtight container in the fridge to hold and retain all its properties for 4-5 days.
