How To Make Homemade Strawberry Jam

Strawberry jam is straightforward to prepare at home, so if you like to have breakfast with this type of preserve, I advise you to encourage yourself to prepare it yourself because it will be more prosperous than any that you buy packaged.

You also make sure that it does not contains additives or preservatives.

We do not usually have jam often, but from time to time, we feel like it, and the strawberry one is one of our favourites.

It reminds me personally of my childhood since I loved toast with peach or strawberry jam.

Strawberries are one of our favourite fruits; they are loaded with antioxidants and give a lot of play in the kitchen, so now that they are in season, we take the opportunity to eat them at all hours; we love them!

On this occasion, we have got a little more than 200 grams, a jar like the one you see in the photos of juicy jam, with many flavours, sweet but with a slight acid touch.

When it is being made, you can try it, and if you like it sweeter, you can add more sweetener.

As in almost all recipes, we have used agave syrup, but you can substitute it for any other syrup, sugar, stevia or whatever you can take.

To make it denser, we have used agar, algae that are used to thicken or eat in other dishes, such as the typical salad usually found in Chinese restaurants.

If you can't find it, you can use another thickener or not add anything; the jam will come out more liquid but just as rich.

Before packing the jam in the jar, it is better to wait for it to cool down a bit because if the pot is made of glass, it could break.

Likewise, I recommend not putting the jam in the fridge until it is freezing.

After a few hours, the jam will remain in a block inside your container, so if you want to have the same texture as the photos or the spots you buy, use a fork to stir it.

We consume the jam quickly, but if you want to make more, you must boil the jars in a water bath to create a vacuum and keep them for longer.

As you can see, it is a straightforward recipe, and you only need to spread the strawberry jam on the bread, or you can also eat it with a spoonful; it's a vice!

This is by far the easiest recipe I have found for strawberry jam without using pectin. The spot is soft, spreadable and delicious.

Ingredients SCALE (1x)

  • 2 cups of strawberries (300 grams)
  • 75 millilitres of water
  • Four tablespoons agave syrup
  • The juice of half a lemon
  • 2 grams of agar (optional)

Ingredients SCALE (2x)

  • 4 cups of strawberries (600 grams)
  • 150 millilitres of water
  • Eight tablespoons agave syrup
  • The juice of half a lemon
  • 4 grams of agar (optional)

Ingredients SCALE (3x)

  • 6 cups of strawberries (900 grams)
  • 225 millilitres of water
  • 12 tablespoons agave syrup
  • The juice of half a lemon
  • 6 grams of agar (optional)

  1. We chop the strawberries and put them in a saucepan with the water, the lemon juice and the agave and put it over medium heat for 30 minutes.
  2. Look at the container of your agar, and you will know how long it has to be boiling. We add it to the jam for 4 minutes before removing it from the heat.
  3. Remove from the heat and blend with the help of a blender. This step is optional.
  4. When the jam is colder, we can put it in a pot.
