How to Make Coconut Milk - Step by Step
Step by step photos of how to make coconut milk

  • Pour the grated coconut and hot water into a blender (photo 1) and beat until well integrated (photo 2).
  • Let the milk rest a little so that it does not burn so much and strain it using a bag for non-dairy milk, a napkin, cheesecloth or even a fine mesh strainer (photo 3). Squeeze well to get as much milk as possible (photo 4).
  • Serve it hot or cold.

Advice

  • For thicker milk, use 3 cups (750 ml) of water and the same amount of grated coconut.
  • If you prefer it lighter, use 1 cup of grated coconut (95 ml) and the same amount of water.
  • It is better to use hot water, but if you are in a hurry, you can use water at room temperature, although the coconut milk will be less dense and have less flavour.
  • If you want to sweeten the milk, you can add your favourite sweetener to taste after straining the milk. If you are using dates, beat the coconut milk with the dates. For any other sweetener, it is not essential to win, stir or shake the milk.
  • Traditional coconut milk is made from fresh coconuts, but I prefer to prepare it this way because the process is faster and cleaner.
