How To Make Almond Milk - Step By Step

Almond milk is one of my favourite vegetable milk. It is cheaper than those sold in supermarkets, it is prepared with natural and nutritious ingredients, and it is delicious. In addition, almonds have a higher amount of calcium than cow's milk.

  • Let the almonds soak for at least 4-6 hours, although ideally, you should leave them overnight (photo 1).
  • Strain and wash the almonds (photo 2).
  • Add the almonds, water and dates to a blender (photo 3) and beat until they are integrated (photo 4).
  • Strain the mixture through a bag for non-dairy milk, a napkin, a piece of cloth or a fine mesh strainer (photo 5).
  • Serve immediately (photo 6), hot or cold.

Advice

  • Any raw almond without salt will do. You can peel them if you want, although it is not necessary.
  • Add whatever sweetener you want or make your milk unsweetened.
  • Some people prefer to add a pinch of salt to their almond milk to enhance its flavour, but I like it better without salt.
  • You can add the ingredients you prefer, such as homemade vanilla extract, cocoa or cinnamon powder.

How to take advantage of the pulp of almonds

The pulp of almonds can be used to prepare many other recipes. You can use it to make chocolate truffles, raw vegan cocoa truffles or hazelnut balls (in this case, the hazelnut is substituted for the almond, and that's it).

Ingredients SCALE (1x)

  • 3–4 cups raw, unsalted almonds (100 g)
  • 2–4 cups of water (500 ml - 1 l), I use 3–4 cups (750 ml - 1 l)

Instructions

  1. Let the almonds soak for 4-6 hours, although ideally, you should leave them overnight.
  2. Strain and wash the almonds. You can remove the skin, but it is not necessary.
  3. Add the almonds, water, and dates to a blender and beat until just combined. Add more or less water depending on how thick you like the almond milk. I usually add 3 or 4 cups of water (750 ml - 1 litre).
  4. Strain the mixture using a non-dairy bag, a  napkin, a piece of cloth or a fine-mesh strainer.
  5. Serve immediately or make vegan hot chocolate, matcha latte, avocado smoothie, or mango smoothie. You can also make a vegan brownie, vegan pancakes, or even savoury recipes like vegan Alfredo pasta with this milk.
  6. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-5 days.
