Advice:

  • If you can't get the beans, you can make this recipe with white beans without a problem.
  • Add your favourite veggies: potatoes, pumpkin, sweet potato, whatever you want! You can also enrich the recipe with other herbs and spices.
  • Instead of saffron, I usually use turmeric because it is cheaper, but it is also vibrant with saffron.
  • You can omit the oil and cook the garlic and onion in a bit of water, vegetable broth, soy sauce, tamari or any other liquid.

Ingredients SCALE (1x)

  • 400 g of cooked or canned beans (2 cups)
  • 1/2 or 1 cup of water (depending on how hot you like the fabada)
  • Two tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil to taste
  • Four garlic cloves, chopped
  • One onion, chopped
  • One tablespoon of sweet paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
  • Two bay leaves
  • One teaspoon salt
  • Black pepper to taste

Ingredients SCALE (2x)

  • 800 g cooked or canned beans (4 cups)
  • 1 or 1 cup of water (depending on how hot you like the fabada)
  • Four tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil to taste
  • Eight garlic cloves, chopped
  • Two chopped onion
  • Two tablespoons sweet paprika
  • One teaspoon turmeric
  • Four bay leaves
  • Two teaspoon salt
  • Black pepper to taste

Ingredients SCALE (3x)

  • 1200 g cooked or canned beans (6 cups)
  • 1 1/2 or 1 cup of water (depending on how soupy you like the fabada)
  • Six tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil to taste
  • 12 garlic cloves, chopped
  • Three onion, chopped
  • Three tablespoons of sweet paprika
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
  • Six bay leaves
  • Three teaspoon salt
  • Black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a pot, add a tablespoon of oil and sauté the garlic and onion for a couple of minutes over medium-high heat.
  2. Blend the vegetables with 50 grams of beans (1/4 cup) together with the water in a blender.
  3. Put the mixture and the rest of the ingredients in the pot (except for the other tablespoon of oil). Stir and cook for about 10 minutes.
  4. When it is ready, add the other tablespoon of oil, stir and serve.
